How to get to Tacurong City
Tacurong City is strategically located in South-Central Mindanao, inside the province of Sultan Kudarat. Located 6° 41′ 33″ North, 124° 40′ 35″ East, Tacurong is bounded by the municipalities of Tantangan (South Cotabato) on the south, Isulan (Sultan Kudarat ) west, Lambayong (Sultan Kudarat) on its north, and Pres Quirino (Sultan Kudarat) in the east. If you’re coming from either Visayas or Luzon, there are at least four “access points” outside Tacurong, where airlines and boats have regular inbound and outbound flights. From these access points you travel by land to Tacurong City.
General Santos City
General Santos City is just one and half hour (90km) away by land from Tacurong. Gensan airport in Brgy. Tambler serve daily flights from airline companies Cebu Pacific, Philippine Airlines and Air Phil. These airlines have daily flights from Manila while Cebu Pacific and Airphils now offers air travel from and to Cebu and Iloilo city. GenSan also has the Makar Port, a known docking harbor of major commercial passenger ferries and boats to and from several points in the Philippines. WGA thru its Superferry, Negros Navigation and Sulpicio Lines have ferries carrying passengers and cargoes to and from many points in the Philippines. This was the oldest mode of access here and is typically the preferred way if you have too many cargoes or pasalubongs. If you’re press with time, ride an airline of course. From the airport or Makar port, there are PUJs that service the route but if you’re in a hurry and without a sundo, a taxi cab is highly recommended. Make sure you negotiate the cab fare before you ride the taxi. Taxi fare plays around php150-php350. Metering is not the usual contracting cab price here. The cab will bring you to the Bulaong Public Terminal where you can ride an air-conditioned van straight to Tacurong or a bus( YBL or Husky) going to Tacurong City.
Fare among these vans or vehicle is in the range of php120-php150. This route will let you pass by the majestic Mt. Matutum and the DOLE pineapple plantation in the town of Tupi and Polomolok, the City of Koronadal and Pres Quirino town before reaching Tacurong City proper.
Davao City have both an international airport and a seaport for commercial vessels with regular inbound and outbound flights or ferries. I’ve only tried riding a boat to Davao City so I guess I’m not comfortable recommending this mode of transport. Davao International Airport though has practically almost every known airline companies in the Philippines flying to and from anywhere in the Philippines. The multiple flights daily also add to the ease of flying to this airport. From the airport you can ride a metered taxi cab (honest and accommodating drivers) that will bring you to an air-conditioned van terminal in Tulip cor Mac Arthur Highway or the Ecoland terminal if you’re riding a bus going to Tacurong City. There’s only two bus companies plying the route to Tacurong (Tabusco) and its bus leaving interval quite long and the numbers very limited. Bus last trip is around 2:00pm and these buses have many stops and have no air conditioning system. The air-conditioned vans in Mac Arthur highway are the usual recommended mode of transport since most of their vans are new and adequately air-conditioned. Last trip is around 5pm. Fare is Php270. Travel time is about 3-3 1/2 hours (~140kms) passing through the city of Digos, towns Sta. Cruz, Basalan, Makilala, Bagon Tapay, Datu Paglas, Buluan, and lastly pres Quirino.
Cotabato City both have the Awang Airport and Polloc Port which was the oldest access points here in Southern Mindanao. Only Philippine Airlines and Cebu Pacific has regular daily single flights to and from Manila. Polloc port only service commercial vessels of Sulpicio and WGA Superferry. From airport or polloc you ride a PUJ (no taxis here) to either the bus terminal (Husky) or the airconditioned vans going to Tacurong city. Travel time is around one to one and half hours.
Cagayan de Oro
Cagayan de Oro city is around 6-8 hours land travel to tacurong. Rural Transit is the only bus company plying this route regularly to and from Cagayan de Oro daily. From Cagayan de Oro city a bus leaves as early as 2AM passing to the towns (Manolo Fortich, Valencia) and Malaybalay city of Bukidnon, Carmen and Kabacan in Malang, North Cotabato, Datu Paglas and Buluan in Maguindanao, Pres Quirino in Sultan Kudarat. Alongside this route you’ll pass by the majestic Mt. Kitanglad Range and national park in Bukidnon as well as the vast Del Monte Pineapple Plantation.
How to know if you are in Tacurong city already
The Tacurong City “roundball” is the famous and most consistent landmark you’ll ever notice when you arrive from all of this routes. All the buses and Vans passes by the public market (to drop off some passengers) and will eventually go to the public terminal in Purok Yellow Bell New Isabela Tacurong City. The mode of transport is thru the pedicab or tricycle and minimum fare is php8.50 which can double or triple depending on the place you’re going to.
Tacurong City Map
So far, I can’t find any online version of the Tacurong City street map. But there’s one ever improving street map “GPSed” version on Google maps which is currently being updated by the Tacurong Google Mappers.
Here’s an aerial view of Tacurong city from Bing.com maps.
A word of caution though, most Tacurong maps available online by Google, open street map and bing maps are not entirely correct. Better check an actual map before going to Tacurong City
