Tacurong City attended the First and Biggest Google Map Making Summit!
Yup that’s right. The City of Tacurong thru Mayor Lina Montilla sent mappers Pepito Carillo and Dennis Teo from the city’s Planning and Development Office to attend the Biggest Google Mapping Summit held recently held at STI Gensan. Aimed at putting Tacurong in the map, helping out in disaster preparedness and increasing our tourism industry (Baras Bird Sanctuary, among others), Tacurong made this first step towards achieving these goals.
This summit was organized by Google itself thru Aileen Apollo (Google’s Asia Extension Services head) and had its Luzon and Visayas leg prior to this event. Mindanao Google summit was facilitated by the fab duo Google Mappers Avel (Gensantos.com) and Orman Manansala (gandaeversomuch.com) and the Sox Bloggers. This mapping summit brought to Gensan Google Geo Mapper advocates from as far as India and Singapore and the Super Mods Geo Advocates from the Philippines Doc Lemuel Foronda, Dante Varias and Berniemack Arellano (Habagat Central).
During this workshop summit, participants were taught how to map their respective localities, edit existing ones, or review maps that are mad by other Google mappers. The group were also oriented on where to find help and ask questions whenever they run into one in the process of Geo Mapping.
An offshoot of this mapping summit is the creation of Tacurong Google Mappers, an open group of Google mappers volunteering to geotag and map Tacurong City. You can join this group on facebookand Google+ to learn more about Map Tacurong! and its activities.
Thank you LGU Tacurong for heading our invitation, and SMART and STI Gensan for the biggest Google Mapping Summit!
