Sinamay / Abaca Processing in Brgy. Chua Bagumbayan, Sultan Kudarat

(From now on, Tacurong City Online will be extending it’s horizons and go beyond the confines of Tacurong alone. It will be featuring news, events, places in and around Tacurong, especially that of Sultan Kudarat it’s home province,  as it affects stories unfolding in the Tacurong City area.)

Did you know that’s there’s an abaca plantation and processing right here in Sultan Kudarat?

A tri-women’s organization (consisting  of christians, muslims and indigenous people)  in Brgy. Chua Bagumbayan produces hats, leis, bags and other souvenir items made of abaca scrunch. And yes, abaca that is grown in Bagumbayan, Sultan Kudarat. Carrying the brand – Neo Country Crafts, this tri-women’s group, design, weave abaca items and sell them as their livelihood.

We chanced upon Mrs. Bogador (in charge) at their processing plant in Brgy. Chua and she talked about how these products are produced-from harvesting to processing, to weaving and then marketing. Neo Country Crafts is still in the process of beefing up their market and is looking for a more regular patron to buy and sell their products. If you are interested in buying their products, you may contact Mrs. Bogador at 09067932114 or contact DTI -SK who’s helping the organization market their products.
