Biggest crowd-getter, jaw-dropper and wow-getter Inugyunay Festival

This year’s Inugyunay Festival is so far the biggest crowd-getter I’ve witnessed in my three years of covering this festival. The hordes of people that came in early, the long line at the entrance, the hundreds more in the city plaza and not counting those in the roads and streets, this years Inugyunay Festival is also probably one of the best attended festivals of Tacurong City. The fireworks display? Hands down, it was a jaw dropper . That is if I base it on the resounding “ooh”s and “woooow” s I hear last night.

Inugyunay Festival or “festival of unity” (from the Hiligaynon word “inugyun” , meaning to unite ) is a monthlong celebration of spectacularly lighted christmas tree, nightly variety shows, bazaars, plaza night market that is highlighted by a jaw dropper fireworks display. It is celebrated by the city of Tacurong from the second week of December to the first week of January the following year.

Unlike last year’s Light a Belen competition, this year’s festival shifted back to the light a tree contest. A christmas tree is creatively designed and lighted by a competing group and then exhibited in the cityhall grounds during the whole duration of the festival. The winners are picked and the prizes are given at the end of the festival . There’s also a variety show every night that brings entertainment to the hundreds that flock to the plaza. Nightly bazaar and plaza market also bring in even more people.

If you are a Tacurongnon, chances are you know most of the Tacurongnons. That’s why despite the thousands of people in the city ground, you’ll get to meet and greet many of your friends and former classmates during Inugyunay Festival. 🙂
